The Martin Luther King Jr. County Labor Council has endorsed Anthony Martinelli in his bid to replace incumbent Matt Pina on the Des Moines City Council. The Labor Council represents over 150 organizations and over 100,000 workers.
“For decades the King County Labor Council has succeeded in improving the lives of workers and being a voice for their struggles, and I’m honored to have their endorsement”, says Martinelli. “If elected I will work strenuously to support workers rights, and to ensure that workers are treated fairly and with respect.”
Part of Martinelli’s platform includes raising the city’s minimum wage, increasing paid sick leave and paid maternity leave, and increasing funding for the city’s police force.
Martinelli, a father of two and a former campaign manager for King County Council Member Dave Upthegrove, announced his candidacy for Des Moines City Council, Position 1, last month.
